Part of our mission at Wellness Tree Farms includes the statement that we work to "demystify and positively impact the cultural understanding of CBD usage."
After a season of talking one-on-one with customers at local markets and venues throughout Central Indiana, we thought it would be a worthwhile endeavor to tackle some CBD myths head on.
Here are 10 common perceptions -- matched with their reality -- to help you better understand the benefits of CBD:
CBD oil can make you high (or it is psychoactive)
CBD does not make you "high" like THC. CBD can boost your mood or potentially decrease your anxiety, but it does not have the same mind-altering impact that THC can have on the body.
CBD oil works the same for each person
The reality is that a variety of factors will impact how CBD will be absorbed by your body including your height, weight, lifestyle, metabolism, body chemistry and how you are using CBD. Although we do recommend consulting your physician before beginning CBD use, every member of the Wellness Tree Farms staff holds a degree or certificate in a medical field. This makes us like-minded and uniquely qualified as a CBD company to provide safe, reliable products and guidance to customers.
CBD is illegal
The Farm Bill of 2018 legalized the cultivation of hemp through USDA-approved programs across the country. We do everything at Wellness Tree Farms by the book and according to the law. In fact, we’re so confident in how safely we do things, we would welcome more industry regulation and oversight than we currently face.
All CBD products are the same
CBD products are not currently regulated by the FDA, and there is a lot of variability of the products on the market. Wellness Tree Farms products contain full spectrum CBD oil, which means that they contain CBD as well as other cannabinoids that can be beneficial for your body. Other products contain CBD
that has been isolated. When making a CBD company choice, always look for a company that is transparent about their processes and procedures, and make sure it publishes certificates of analysis. Wellness Tree Farms is an active member of the Midwest Hemp Council and welcomes additional regulations.
CBD can fix almost anything
The most common conditions that people take CBD oil for are pain and inflammation, insomnia and anxiety. Research is beginning to provide evidence of what CBD can and cannot be used for. Claims that CBD oil is a cure-all that can address any ailments in the body are misleading and confusing. The FDA has approved one CBD product, a prescription drug product, to treat seizures associated with certain conditions in patients one year of age and older.
(These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.)
CBD oil and hemp oil are the same thing
CBD oil and hemp oil do, in fact, both come from hemp plant. But, they come from different sources on the plant itself. CBD oil is extracted from the flowers, leaves and stalks of the hemp plant, while hemp oil is made from the seeds of the hemp plants. Hemp oil has been found to have little to no CBD content.
CBD and THC are the same
CBD and THC are both cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant. Although both CBD and THC have a similar chemical structure, they interact with the endocannabinoid system differently and have different effects on a person’s body. THC is the primary psychoactive chemical found in marijuana and will make people feel “high.” Wellness Tree Farms products contain 0.3% or less of THC, as required by the 2018 Farm Bill.
There are no side effects to taking CBD
Like most things we put into our bodies, CBD oil may potentially have some negative side effects for people who ingest it. The most common side effects can include digestive upset, sleepiness, dizziness or changes in appetite. In general, CBD oil is considered fairly safe but customers should always consult with a physician before beginning to use CBD if they have any questions or concerns.
CBD is addictive
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently completed a comprehensive review of CBD. The WHO concluded that “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential.”
You will notice the effects of CBD immediately
In general, CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream within 20-120 minutes, depending on a variety of factors including the method of intake, quality and concentration of your CBD products and your individual body chemistry. It may take a few days for you to notice the benefits and effects of CBD on your system. We recommend taking CBD for 30 days to fully understand how your body responds.
